Thoughts of Mary

Thoughts of Mary formed in 1991 when Marc Daigle (guitar) and Gabe Daigle (vocals–no relation), began kicking around the idea of starting a band. They found like-minded allies in friends, Joel Dicharry (bass) and Bill Rhodes (guitar). With influences ranging from the Replacements to Neil Young, they started to forge a sound that melded early 80’s jangle rock with heavier alternative rock stylings of the day. The band recruited local drummer, Keith Simoneaux, and began paying their dues at bars and fraternity parties. The same year they recorded their only cd, Paper, Rock, Scissors, which yielded the regional radio hit, “Anymore”.

The band toured constantly throughout the Southeast U.S. to expand their following and in the process built a loyal fanbase. Along the way, the band played shows with the likes of Echo and the Bunnymen, the Gin Blossoms, Cowboy Mouth, Soul Hat, Better than Ezra, and many others. Toward the end of 1994, the band grew tired of touring and disbanded—many said before reaching their full potential. Their final gigs were two sold out shows on the same night at the Varsity Theatre in Baton Rouge.

Since then the band members have all continued to play music, independently from each other. “We decided the time was right for us to get together and have some fun. A lot of people have asked me over the years for a copy of our old cd, so I figured there was still some interest there,” says lead singer, Gable Daigle. “Plus, with a couple of the guys living in other states we thought it would be great just to see each other and see if we can remember how to play the songs.” The band hopes to draw fans that remember their blend of tuneful songs and alternative rock.

Thoughts of Mary plays January 27 at Chelsea’s Café located at 2857 Perkins Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70808 Phone: (225) 387-3679.
