Hailing from San Diego, pinback is a band comprised of two principal players: Armistead Burwell Smith IV (Zach) and Rob Crow. Pinback started as a part-time endeavor back in 1998, When Zach’s band 3 mile pilot went on an extended hiatus and Rob found time away from his other musical interests (mainly thingy and heavy vegetable). After recording their self-titled debut, released by ace fu in 1999, Pinback became a fully realized project.

The next few years saw an increase in Pinback activity. In 2000, Tree Records released the ep Some Voices, and Ace Fu released Pinback’s second full-length, blue screen life, in 2001. Between record releases, Pinback toured as a full five piece band, hitting points across North America and Europe. Additionally, Pinback offered up many tour-only eps, consisting of various combinations of live tracks, alternate takes, and unreleased songs. In 2003, absolutely kosher released the lengthy 5-song ep, Offcell.

Pinback’s debut record for Touch and Go, Summer in Abaddon, was recorded by the duo in Zach’s home studio over the course of 2003, and truly captures Pinback’s essence.

Mary Timony is an artist whose career is inextricably linked to historic punk and indie rock bands from the American underground in the 80’s and 90’s. Starting out in Dischord’s dreamy femme pop outfit Autoclave, she went on to be the frontwoman of Matador’s Helium. Helium released 2 albums and a 4 other CD/EP /7″ records. Mary Timony then released 2 solo albums on Matador, most recently, 2002’s The Golden Dove.

After stints in NYC and Boston, Mary has returned to her old residence, DC, and started an entirely new phase of her phenomenal career. Playing intricate, almost prog-like guitar, she has formed a new duo with drummer Devin Ocampo of Dischord’s The Medications. The pair play incredibly complex, post-rock compositions which highlight both Mary’s legendary voice and her elegant guitar playing. The new songs aren’t like anything else out there: expect to be amazed.

Mary Timony’s new album “Ex Hex” was produced by Brendan Canty of Fugazi.

Note: On this tour, Chad Molter will be joining Mary and Devin on the bass guitar.

Local supporting act, 2CV, features Lee Barbier, Dave Quinlan, John Sullivan and Creighton Durrant.
