Abita Fest
Wednesday 6 June 2007
Chelsea’s Café Presents Abita Fest July 16th – July 21st
For one week in July Chelsea’s and Abita Beer have teamed up to give you a mid summer treat. We will be serving ice cold Abita products for special prices, free giveaways, including those super nice Abita t-shirts, huggies, stickers, and more. Chelsea’s will be serving up live music nightly, with the start being on July 16th with a reunion of our old open mic night, featuring some of the finest local talent in Baton Rouge. We will carry on through the week with Mike Foster Project on that Wednesday the 18th, K-Flux on the 19th, and the Lost Bayou Ramblers on the 20th and Reverend Payton’s Big Damn Band on the 21st. All the above shows will start at 10:30 pm and will be located inside of Chelsea’s.
However, on the 21st, we will be opening the backyard to a special event featuring a dj from 12 noon to 2pm, and live music till 10pm. Some of the bands are Local 309, Alan Brockman, TJ Black, and special guest. We will be serving Abita products from outdoor bars, as well as soft drinks and refreshments for the families. We will have a food court set up along the back fence featuring some of our delicious foods. All ages are welcome because we want this to be a family event and encourage you to spread the word.
During this event we will be putting on an Art show inside the building from 5-10pm featuring local artist from Jay Michael’s splinter group of artist. We want to try to make this a cultural event to encompass the local flavor that south Louisiana has to offer. Everything will be Louisiana in style, including the bands, beer, food and art of the fest, so be sure to spread the word. This could be a really great thing to do on a very hot day in the summer. Nobody said we were smart to do this in the middle of July, but since it is going to be hot anyway, why not make a day out it.
Thanks,
Dave Remmetter

Monday 15 January 2007
Chelsea’s is proud to have The Michael Foster Project playing Wednesday nights this spring. Due to previous committments, they won’t be playing every Wednesday, so be sure to check out the Events calendar for the exact dates.
The Michael Foster Project has been a long standing group in the Baton Rouge area. The group, led by bassist Michael Foster, has featured some of the most talented musicians in and around the Baton Rouge area. Starting at Southern University in the late 80’s, Foster envisioned a group that would showcase the talent of Southern University Musicians. This group would last through the 90’s and would bring in talent such as Simon Lott, Chris “The Katt” Lee, Doug Gay, Emanuel “Smiley” Turnipseed, John Gray, Quamon Fowler, Maurice Brown, and a host of others.

Best Underrated Food: Chelsea’s Cafe
What other college bar offers gourmet lunches on a budget? Rachel Ray would have a field day at this place. The mojo chicken salad is among the best barbecue chicken in Baton Rouge, and one of our staffers insists their hummus is the best in town. Tucked under the Perkins Road overpass it’s easy to miss, but well worth seeking out. Owner Dave Remmeter says lunches will be postponed until Fall 2006, but until then, there’s dinner.

Chelsea’s in the News Again
Monday 20 March 2006
The Greater Baton Rouge Business Report has an article on our new register system:
After relocating from the LSU area, Chelsea’s is reopening today at the Perkins Road Overpass after owner Dave Remmeter invested $250,000 in upgrades. He says $40,000 was spent on a payment system that is likely unique in the area. The wait staff is equipped with personal digital assistants to take orders at the tables and to swipe credit cards, which should speed up service and reduce ordering mistakes. Also, Remmeter says the wait staff can use a tiny printer attached to their hips to print bills. Chelsea’s opened over the weekend for the St. Patrick’s Day parade to positive reviews. “I’m not a bragger, but jaws dropped when people walked in.” The new Chelsea’s, located in the former Old Colonel’s Club, is 5,000 square feet and features porches, new wood floors and, soon, a $15,000 neon sign.
Chelsea’s shifted because FirstWorthing was knocking down the former University Shopping Center — home to the old Chelsea’s — to make room for apartments and new retail space.

An article on our opening appeared in the online edition of the Baton Rouge Advocate. It includes some Chelsea’s history as well as some amusing anecdotes, such as the Legend of Pimp Capone.
Chelsea’s to Open Very Soon
Saturday 11 March 2006
Chelsea’s will open soon, but until the “official” word arrives, we won’t announce the date. But it’s so close we can almost taste it. Sorta the flavor of deep-fried potato skins, salty, and served with a cool glass of beer.
However, we do know that we will not be open in time to host Lucero on Tuesday, March 14th. Thus there has been a venue change: Lucero will now play at SOGOLive on March 14th.
